Editorial

Welcome to the first newsletter of 1985. As you can see, it’s got a new format and from now on I’ll be writing a few lines to start each one off.

We’re now into our 10th Anniversary year and there are various plans already underway to celebrate it. During the year there will be five regional Days of Dance with the main event, as usual, being the A.G.M. in September, this year hosted by Persephone – Bradford Women’s Morris.

Some of you may have seen the programme about the Saddleworth Rushcart ceremony, which was shown on ITV on January 1st, called ‘The Longwood Thump’. It gave a very biassed view of Morris dancing and we felt that we could not let it go without comment. I wrote to the director, Marilyn Gaunt, and both my letter and her answer are included in this newsletter. If you saw the film and have any comments to make about it, it’s not too late to write to First Thursday or to let us know how you feel by writing something for the next newsletter.
