I have been requested not to begin the editorial with “Welcome” as this repeats the President’s greetings! so – having consulted Roget’s Thesaurus, the best I can come up with is This is the super slim first Newsletter of 1995. This is because of the overcrowded life of the Editor consisting of too much work, too few staff (at work) and too little energy. Apologies for the absence of all the goodies promised, these will appear in the next issue, especially as I have already received some of them.
Unlike the past two years, everything in this issue is true: no April Fool’s adverts; no brilliant spoofs on EC documents (originally published by The Morris Ring); no silly take- offs of that well known cartoon textile now residing in France, but almost certainly made in England. I have conserved my energies by trying to get enough sleep. If you would like to be our April Fool creator in 1996 please let me know.
Some changes to the look of this issue – an attempt to further streamline production and produce most of the headings via the computer rather than cut and paste. The cover has also been revamped, and the new photo of the Committee represented a challenge in the arrangement of information within a limited space. Also we have included brief details of what we all do so that you can try and contact the correct person.
This year is the 20th anniversary of the Morris Federation and we haven’t planned anything special as we are saving our energies for the 25th anniversary in the year 2000. We will be bringing out a supplement to the Newsletter giving information about the Sides who joined
in our first year. On to a less pleasant subject. Over the past three months I have received two rude letters from people sounding off their opinions in a most forthright and unpleasant way. As Sally Wearing points out in her prologue we are volunteers and I don’t see why we have to receive such correspondence. I am always more than happy to print members comments, however good manners and courtesy cost nothing – only time, a well written and argued point of view will always win over a vitriolic outpouring. So, courteous, well argued letters please.
If you haven’t gathered already the May Bank Holiday is the weekend of the 6th to 8th May, this saves the Government having to give us another day off to celebrate VE Day. So, don’t go rushing off to Hastings, Rochester, or wherever for May 1st, and remember to book a days’ annual leave if you are planning to dance out on the 1st May. If you are a step dancer, or know of anyone who is in a step dance team, please give them the enclosed questionnaire to complete so that we can start up a special interest group for these dancers.
