Editorial

Welcome to the final issue for 1995. A bumper package in time for Christmas. Well I asked for contributions and they have been flooding in. Thanks.

A small reminder about copy date – again! I know I am flexible about this but 30th November is a bit silly. Also, thanks to all of you who have sent items in on disk, this is appreciated.

Can the person who rang me about their copy with the black pages (Autumn issue please ring again as I mislaid the piece of paper I made the not on – sorry about this).

We welcome Janet Dowling, our President elect to the committee and Newsletter and it’s good to see the Newsletter contributions from her rolling in already.

We say farewell to another member of the folk world. Sheila Mason died on 29th September. A folk fiddler for over 60 years she began playing for social dance with her school team in the 1930s and was a well known figure on the London and SE England dance scene. A regular musician at Cecil Sharp House and the EFDSS Albert Hall Festivals in the 1960s she formed the Kenton Ramblers band. there is a dance at Cecil Sharp House, 2.00pm – 6.00pm, Sunday 28th January 1996 to celebrate Sheila’s life and music. If you Knew Sheila please come and join in the celebration. If you want to know more about Sheila, there is an obituary in the current edition of English Dance and Song

The discussion on christianity, paganism and the morris is really hotting up and could become an extremely interesting discussion, so please send in your thoughts and comments.

Do you want the Federation and/or other morris organisations to issue so sort of information about this? Please let a committee member know if you do. The dates of the committee meetings are on the noticeboard.

Don’t forget to pay your subscriptions by the end of December and take up the offer of personal injury insurance if you want to. A cautionary tale about injuries sustained is included in the financial section. Have you completed your copy of the morris injuries survey yet. remember the more that are completed the more reliable the data is.

Are you interested in hosting the AGM? – if you are at all intrigued by the idea please ring Steve as we are looking for a team(s) to host the 1996 AGM.

At last I have had a response to my soundings off about the quality of morris music, however this was received too late for this issue so will appear in the Spring issue, if you want to contribute to this discussion please write to me.

There is nothing more to say except seasons greetings and a happy new year.
