Summary

The Sword Dance Union Tournament took place in Guisborough, hosted by Redcar Sword Dancers, featuring competitions in various dance categories, including Youth, Own Dance, Traditional Dance, and Music. The event included dancing around Guisborough, exhibitions of sword dance artifacts, and displays by Loftus Sword Dancers. The tournament culminated in awards for the best performances, judged on audience reaction. Notable teams such as Stone Monkey and Monkseaton Morrismen participated, showcasing high standards. The next event is scheduled for 6 October 2012 in Gateshead, promising an exciting day of traditional dance and competitions.

Featured sides competing in the tournament were Heighton Primary School, Maltby Nestlings, Maltby Phoenix, Stone Monkey, Monkseaton Morrismen, Sallyport Sword, and Newcastle Kingsmen. Teams exhibiting included Claro Sword, Gift Rapper, Goathland Plough Stots, Redcar Sword Dancers, and Sullivan’s Sword.

Featured events

The Sword Dance Union Day of Dance and Longsword Tournament took place in Guisborough, with events at Prior Pursglove College and Kirkleatham Hall Museum. Future events include the next tournament on 6th October 2012 at the Sage in Gateshead. Additionally, various midwinter dancing events are scheduled across the UK, including Pateley Bridge, Ripon, Byker, Flamborough, Grenoside, Woodhouse, Handsworth, Kirkby Malzeard, Greatham, Southport, Cleckheaton, Saddleworth, Barnsley, Kirkburton, and Goathland.
