Summary

This issue covers various traditional sword dance activities and events. Highlights include the Saddleworth Morrismen’s midwinter performance, the Southport Swords’ entertaining Santa routine, and the Dithmarscher Schwertertanzer’s unique German sword dance. It also previews the DERT 2012 tournament, promising exciting rapper sword competitions in Soho, London. Additionally, it features an article on the historic Papa Stour sword dance group joining other traditional British teams for a special event in Goathland.

Featured events

Saddleworth Morrismen performed in Saddleworth on December 27th. Southport Swords were seen at the Hesketh Arms, Churchtown. The Dithmarscher Schwertertanzer showcased their dance at a traditional fair in Brunsbüttel, near Hamburg. The Goathland Plough Stots, along with other traditional British teams, will gather in Goathland on 5 and 6 May for a commemorative event. Finally, DERT 2012 will take place in Soho, London, from 30 March to 1 April, featuring numerous rapper sword teams from the UK, Europe, and the USA.
