Videos to Support Your Side's Recruitment Events

About This Document

This document provides details of how the Morris Federation can create short videos to support side’s which are planning recruitment events for new members.

Background

The Morris Federation is celebrating its 50th anniversary during 2025. Throughout the year we intend to support our sides by providing a service to create short videos which sides can use when promoting their recruitment events.

Example of a Recruitment Videos

A small number of promotional videos have been produced (see the playlist on ‘MF side recruitment events’). The key scenes in a 44 second long video for Bare Bones Border Morris are shown below (click on image for larger view).

The first scene provides a short clip of a dance (typically about 10-20 seconds long, in this case 14 seconds). The clip also includes brief information about the side, gives a ‘call to action’ for finding more about the side (in this case by Googling for #BareBonesBorder) and an indication that new members are welcome.

Since a video of a practice was available it was decided to use a clip so that potential recruits could have an indication of what the open evening would look like. Scene 2 last for 24 seconds and includes details of the date, time and location.

The third scene (which lasts for 5 seconds) provides details on how to find the Morris Federation’s Teamfinder service (by Googling for #MorrisTeamFinder). This will be useful for the wider community if potential recruits decide that joining Bare Bones isn’t for them (perhaps it’s too far away or the practice night isn’t suitable).

Ensuring additional information can be found

We might expect a potential new recruit would search for additional information about a side before going to a first practice.

Many sides will have a website and/or a Facebook page. However a profile on the Morris Federation’s Teamfinder service can be easier to find as the large size of the website can mean that searches appear near the top of search results, especially for sides which include their side’s hashtag.

As an example a search for #BareBonesBorder should find the illustrated profile (click on image for larger view) which, in this case, provides useful additional information.

A Recruitment Video for Your Side

Would you like a recruitment videos for your side? If so we will need:

  • One or two videos, ideally publicly available on YouTube or Facebook – or you can send us an MP4 video file.
  • Permission you use the video.
  • Details of your recruitment event (ideally give us 4 weeks notice!)

We would also expect your side to have a rich Teamfinder profile, ideally including your side’s hashtag.

Note the document “Making Videos (Suitable for Reuse)” provides advice on how sides can take short videos of their side which can be reused by others, to help with your marketing and recruitment.

Making Use of Your Video

After your video has been made it will be uploaded to the Morris Federation’s YouTube channel, initially for checking. Once you are happy with the content you can share this link. However if you’d like a copy of the MP4 video file for you to upload to your own channels we will be happy to do that.
