Workshop – Virtual Ceilidh Calling Masterclass (LIVE on Zoom)

Workshop – Virtual Ceilidh Calling Masterclass

In these times of no proper ceilidhs, callers have the time and the chance to hone their skills for the new normal – the Zoom Ceilidh!

Fee Lock & Martyn Harvey – two top callers – one southern and one northern, one woman & one man, and both morris dancers.  They’re combining to give tips & warnings, dance ideas & technical advice and their individual suggestions for some things that don’t often get talked about!  There will be plenty of time for Q&A.  And a tea/coffee/bar break too.

Programme

We will cover adapting your ceilidh dances and calling for Zoom (or other video conferencing software), and the technical challenges:

1. Good/bad calling

2. Adjusting dances to suit a Zoom/virtual audience

3. The dreaded time lag

4. Working with a new band

5. Where to choose to film

6. Payment & tax

Your hosts

Fee LockFee Lock (Hastings, Sussex) – Fee Lock spices up her unerring eye for what the dance floor wants by pogo-ing up and down between cut-glass enunciations. Favourite after danceable favourite spiked with unusual new dances make for an entertaining evening. Fee works closely with the band in advance of each gig, often travelling the length and breadth of the country to hear them play. This exceptionally tight planning leads directly to fabulously feels-good, feels-right music for each dance. Do not miss.

Martyn Harvey (Kendal, Cumbria) – Martyn’s one of those lucky callers who’s steeped in years of dance experience.  Best calling practice from the likes of Hugh Ripon, John Lagden and Tom Cook.  Technically his calling is very sound and he manages to get dancers through dances they didn’t even think that they could manage.  He always keeps an eye on the dancers and is quick to capitalise on any opportunity to get people laughing.  And he wears a black hat.

Workshop – Online Practices and Zoom Q&A (LIVE on Zoom)

Workshop – Online Practices and Zoom Q&A Drop-In

A very informal session for you to ask us questions about running online practices.  We will be on hand to help answer basic questions about Zoom and video conferencing software in general, and share tips for running online practices.  No question is too basic.  Bring a cuppa and drop in for chat and a play with Zoom, anytime between the times shown, you don’t have to stay for the full session!

Please Register, and with your Zoom link you will be sent instructions on how to connect and how to get help if you have problems connecting.
