Blacking up in morris dancing is a very sensitive and emotive subject, and we are truly saddened by the division it has caused amongst morris dancers.
The Morris Federation are currently seeking legal advice on the impact of blacking up in morris, as highlighted by Shrewsbury Folk Festival’s decision not to book full-face blacked up Morris dancers and reported in the most recent issue of the Shropshire Star.
We will be chairing an open discussion at our AGM in Nottingham on 24th September 2016, to which all members have been invited to attend.
