Workshop – “Setting up and running a Youth morris team” – a JMO event
Thinking about setting up a youth morris/sword/clog team, but don’t know where to start?
The JMO (*) is hosting a panel from across all 3 morris organisations, to share their tips and experiences of what has worked well for their youth team/side. Each speaker will speak for around 10-15 minutes then time for your Q&A before moving on to the next speaker.
Please bring your own ideas and experiences to share, too.
Your hosts
Jess Arrowsmith of NYFTE (National Youth Folk Troupe of England), a member of the Morris Federation. NYFTE is a youth team aged 10-18 who practise and perform at various locations around England. Jess’s talk will focus on recruitment, retention, and safeguarding.
Penny-Jane Swift of Steps in Time Junior Traditional Dancers, a youth team in Dorset, a member of Open Morris.
Andrew Fawcett of Wath Morris Minors, in Wath-on-Dearne, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, a member of The Morris Ring. Wath Morris Minors are open to 4 year olds and over (and their grown ups!). Andrew’s talk will incude how Wath Morris Minors came about in the first place, how they have grown over the six years since they formed, and his concerns for the future.
