In Memory of Trefor Owen

This week we were sad to learn of the passing of Trefor Owen on 22nd April 2026.  Trefor was a former President of The Morris Federation (2004 – 2009).

Trefor was a keen North West dancer and teacher of Wakefield Morris, but was best known as a clog maker, providing many UK teams with a steady supply of custom, quality clogs for North West and Step Clogging. His keenness for North West traditions also led to becoming author of the Federation’s publication North West Morris Dancing – a selection from Trefor Owen’s Collection, 1988

The Morris Federation Committee send our sincerest condolences to his friends and family at this sad time. May his memory live on in the dances of Wakefield Morris.

Here is a short video of Trefor making clogs at his workshop in Criccieth, North Wales: Clogs by Trefor Owen of Cricieth (3 min)

Please find below an open invitation to the funeral of Trefor Owen.

Following the service, Trefor’s family will be gathering on the beach outside his house to remember his life.  This will be an informal affair but all are very welcome.

If you would like to donate to charity in Trefor’s memory, you can do so by following this link to our JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/trefor-owen .  Alternatively, there will be the opportunity to donate at the funeral.  Donations will be shared between Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team and Cancer Research UK.  Trefor’s family say: Dad found peace amongst the mountains of Wales and the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team was very close to his heart. He also felt the pain of loss cancer brings to so many and was himself diagnosed with an aggressive and terminal brain tumour in February 2026.
