Permission Sought for use of Archive Documents and Photos

May we use your images for the History of the Morris Federation?

A message from the authors of the forthcoming book of the First 25 Years history of the MF.

As many of you will know, we have been writing a history of the first 25 years of the Federation.  This is now nearing publication.  There are a number of photographs and other images held in the MF Archive, particularly in the MF Scrapbooks, Albums and Side History Records, that we would like to use to illustrate the book.

We would like to be able to work on the assumption that anyone who submitted such material to the Archive in the past would be content for it to be used in this way.

However, if there is someone who owns the copyright to images held in the Archive, and who would either object to them being used for this history and/or other projects in future, or who would simply like their ownership to be acknowledged, please contact both Sally Wearing and The Morris Federation’s Archive Officer, Jerry West, as soon as possible: Email: sallywearing@outlook.com and archive@morrisfed.org.uk

Use of items held by us

Jerry West, Archive Officer, adds…

The Committee apologises for not always being punctilious in obtaining and documenting copyright and permissions in the past. Often stuff just “arrived”, perhaps via someone bumping into a committee member at an event, and we weren’t as concerned as we might have been about the paperwork.

Nonetheless, we believe everything the Federation holds was given to the Federation in the expectation that it would be useful for some morris-friendly purpose, thus granting us an implied license to use the material.

So, unless we already have documented restrictions on items (such as we do for some dance notation), or receive specific objections, your Committee feels it is reasonable to assume we can use all items currently in the Federation’s possession to further the Federation’s Aims. We will nonetheless ask the membership to confirm this new policy at the 2026 AGM.

Don't miss out
