Featured side: Young Miscellany

Young Miscellany is a children’s folk dancing group based in Harpenden who have been enabling children and young people to perform traditional English folk and Morris dancing with others of a similar age for over 30 years.

Young Miscellany perform a broad range of styles of dance allowing our young people to make informed choices about the future dance directions they may take.  We include dances from styles including Border, Cotswold and Northwest Morris; Clog, Rapper and Maypole dancing.   Many of our ex-members go on to  join adult teams continuing their dancing interests.

We have a dedicated team of experienced dance tutors each bringing their own expertise to the group, however our young people are always at the centre and are involved in decisions about the styles and dances we perform.  All of our performances are to the accompaniment of live music performed by a band consisting mainly of our parents but young musicians are always welcome to join us.

The benefits to our young members are huge and include learning to work as a team, increased fitness and physical co-ordination, and helping to develop confidence by performing in front of live audiences.  It is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, often forming lasting friendships beyond Young Miscellany.

We warmly welcome young dancers (new or experienced) and musicians from all communities to join us. Anyone between the ages of 6 and 16 who would like to find out more, would be welcome to attend one of our sessions, free of charge, to have a look and/or  participate with no obligation.

We practise in Harpenden, usually two Sunday mornings a month, in school term time.
