Featured side: Pump House Clog Morris

Pump House Clog Morris are a friendly and welcoming mixed North West Morris Side from Watford in Hertfordshire. New members are always welcome. Learn some traditional English dances and enjoy dancing out at events, both locally and further afield at Festivals and Days of Dance.

Most of our dances originate from the mill towns of Lancashire and surrounding counties, hence North West Morris. When the English textile industry was at its peak, the mill girls wore clogs to work in, and perhaps to distract themselves from the noise and monotony of the work, they would move their feet to the rhythm of the looms and eventually turning these rhythms into dances which would have been performed at festivals such as Easter, Christmas and May Day. Today we perform dances, sometimes passed on from other sides, and some we adapt to suit our style. Sometimes we might perform a dance from a different ‘style’ just to keep life interesting!
