Festival of Morris, Morris Federation Day of Dance and AGM 2018

New Esperance Morris are planning a ‘Festival of Morris’ in London over the weekend of 21-23 September 2018, to coincide with The Morris Federation Day of Dance and AGM.

Cecil Sharp House in Camden Town will be the base for the whole weekend, with indoor camping available.

Saturday tours will use public transport within zones 1–3, for which the daily price cap is currently £7.70.

New Esperance would like members’ help to decide on which of their many ideas they should pursue. Download the feedback form and return to Diane Moody.

Dancing for Maud Karpeles

Maud Karpeles’ work in folk dance and song collection as well as her contribution as organiser and arts animator supreme has been increasingly recognised and re-evaluated by the folk dance revival. Still her work is largely over-shadowed by the prestige accorded to Cecil Sharp, under whom she worked closely as secretary and support for many years.

On Sunday 1st of October 2017, The Belles of London City hosted a day of dance to celebrate the life of Maud Karpeles (1885-1976), with New Esperance Morris, Dacre Morris, Camden Clog, and Tower Ravens Rapper.  This includes visiting and dancing in places that were important to Maud and remembering her contribution to folk dance.

Hammersmith Morris Half Marathon Madness

Hammersmith Morris
Hammersmith Morris

On Sunday 8th October 2017 Hammersmith Morris Men are dancing the Royal Parks Half Marathon in central London.

They’ve completed their own long distance dance, 10bridges10k, every year since 2010 which travels the 10 kilometres from Vauxhall to London Bridge, crossing all 10 bridges on the way. This year they wanted to see if they could go a bit further.

They’re excited about the challenge and also raising money for ReachOut, a mentoring charity that work with young people in London and Manchester. ReachOut changes the lives of young people from disadvantaged communities through one-to-one mentoring, helping them get a better start in life, improving their self-confidence and raising their aspirations.

If you’re able to, they’d be very pleased if you could sponsor them.
