Recording of a Morris Federation talk on “Return to Dancing Fitness (1 of 7)” by Rhys Boorman held on Zoom on 21 March 2021. The #MorrisFedvideo lasts for 53 minutes.



Week 1 of a 7 session ‘return to dancing fitness’ programme, starting and ending with ‘live’ session 6 weekends apart, and recorded videos for 5 weekends in between.

This is week 1, a ‘live’ session held on Sunday 21st March 2021.

Go at your own pace and don’t do any exercises that will cause you pain.

16:15 Core workout – 13 exercises – 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest: Squats / Lunges / Ceiling Touches / (on mat) Leg Raises / (on mat) Flutter Kicks / Calf Raises / Plank / Elbow to Knee Crunch / (on mat) V-Sits / Shoulder Taps / Tricep Dips / Russian Twists / Press Ups

38:43 Plyometric workout – 10 exercises: 20 seconds work, 20 seconds rest: Jump Squats / Jump Lunges / Morris Plain Capers / Fast Hops L / Fast Hops R / Morris Double Steps (*) / In & Out Squats / Jumping Jacks (Star Jumps) / Split Lunges / Morris Single Steps (*) (*) (or choose Single Steps or Rant Steps)

The sessions are structured as: Warm-up mobility & stretching; Core workout to aid balance while dancing; Plyometric Workout including Morris steps – to add some power and spring into your step; Cool down.

Speaker biography

Rhys Boorman is a PE Teacher, and while in lockdown has kept up his fitness by completing weekly core and plyometrics sessions similar to the ones which he will be leading in the workshop.  He has had plenty of practice at leading unruly groups due to his job as a PE Teacher!

He also likes to regularly run half marathons for fun, and is currently in the middle of marathon training.
