Abstract
There is a connection between morris dancing, hobby horses and giants. In his talk, Stephen Rowley brings his experience as a giant builder, hobby horse maker and morris researcher, to look at this history. From C15th beginnings to the current day. Featuring Coppin, lately returned from his experience dancing at the Brit Awards, and material from the current exhibitions of folk costume (Making Mischief: Folk Costume in Britain, at Compton Verney) and Hooden Horse (Animal Guising and the Kentish Hooden Horse, at Maidstone Museum).
Talk for approx 50 mins then time for Q&A.

Speaker biography
Stephen Rowley founded the Mummers Symposium in 2011 – an annual meeting of mummers, folklorists and academic researchers from around the world. He is also a musician and dancer, founder of the International Mummers Festival, the International Pipe and Tabor Festival, and The Taborers Society. He has performed and taught widely in Europe, USA, Russia and Australia. He has a particular interest in the festival procession dances of the Iberian peninsular and their music.
