SUMMARY:Mastering Performance Workshop Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Mastering Performance Workshop Weekend – what’s it all about?\nThe purpose of the weekend is to offer ideas and advice to teams wanting to improve their standard of dancing and performance in order to meet their aims and objectives\, be that better recognition\, attracting new members\, festival invites etc. \nThe workshops will cover playing for evolved Cotswold\,  dancing and playing for traditional and evolved North West\, formal discussion panels\, informal roundtable discussions\, and a chance to network. \nTo book please complete the online form. \nAlthough one of the main objectives of The Morris Federation is to promote good quality Morris dancing\, which for us includes both dancers and musicians\, the aim of the workshops are to look not only at the quality of the actual dancing and music but also to discuss the whole performance\, so for instance: \n– best use of space available\n– how teams present themselves walking on and off from a performance\n– being ready\n– being aware of the audience and not blocking their view\n– interacting with other teams\n– showing support by watching the other teams rather than distracting the audience\n– team style e.g. arm movements\, lines etc\, which should become automatic so that members can concentrate on the figures without compromising the overall performance\n– having an awareness of the dance as a whole i.e. that it is a team and not an individual \nThe workshops are not at any specific set level\, so please be considerate of those less experienced. One of the main reasons teams remain good is that they go back to basics every now and then to maintain their style\, which then allows them to focus on the detail. \nRoundtable discussions will take place during refreshment breaks\, and cover subjects such as: \n– Warms Ups\n– Running Practices\n– Making a dance a performance\n– Team Kit\n– Team Strategy\n– Recruitment \nWe also hope to film workshops and have a note taker for the each of the roundtable discussions to add relevant material to The Morris Federation archive/library for future use by members. \nOn Saturday evening will be an informal social\, so bring instruments\, clogs\, voices etc. \nPrices are inclusive of refreshments\, lunch for day ticket holders\, and Saturday evening meal for weekend tickets holders. There is also outdoor camping available. \nSaturday afternoon £12.50 \nSunday £25 \nWeekend £50 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe hope that gives you a better flavour of the weekend and look forward to seeing you there. \nWeekend Programme\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSaturday 28th April \n\n\n\n\n12noon \n\n\nRegistration & Welcome \n\n\n\n\n12.45pm \n\n\nLunch (Soup\, Bread\, Cheese & Fruit) & Discussion Groups (as above) \n\n\n\n\n1.15pm \n\n\nPresentation – The Morris Census 2017 with Jack Worth \n\n\n\n\n2.15pm \n\n\nDiscussion Groups: \n\n\nTeam set up & Constitution \n\n\nHow to run a practice/ good practice techniques \n\n\nMaking a dance a Performance \n\n\n\n\nWorkshop 1: \nPlaying for Evolved Cotswold with Barry Goodman of Redbournestoke Morris \n\n\n\n\n3.15pm \n\n\nRefreshments & Networking \n\n\n\n\n4.00pm \n\n\nDiscussion Groups – Team roles: \n\n\nLeader/ Foreman/ Squire \n\n\nSecretary/ Bag \n\n\nTreasurer \n\n\nArchivist \n\n\n\n\nWorkshop 1 continued \n\n\n\n\n5.00pm \n\n\nReview & Close \n\n\n\n\n6.00pm \n\n\nEvening Meal (Lasagne & Salad) \n\n\n\n\nEvening \n\n\nInformal Music\, Song & Dance Session – Bring your own drinks!! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday 29th April \n\n\n\n\n9.30 \n\n\nRegistration & Welcome \n\n\n\n\n10.00am \n\n\nWorkshop 2: \nPerforming Tradional North West with Rivington Morris \n\n\nWorkshop 3: \nPlaying for Traditional North West with Peter Bearon & Phil Trewinnard of Rumworth Morris \n\n\n\n\n11.00am \n\n\nRefreshments & Discussion Groups: \n\n\nTeam Kit with Margaret Watt (Rivington Morris) & Jenny Everett \n\n\nTeam Strategy with Tom Besford (Horwich Prize Medal Morris Men) \n\n\nRecruitment \n\n\nWarm Ups \n\n\n\n\n\n\n11.45am \n\n\nWorkshop 2 continued \n\n\nWorkshop 3 continued \n\n\n\n\n12.45pm \n\n\nLunch (Soup\, Bread\, Cheese & Fruit) & Networking \n\n\n\n\n1.15pm \n\n\nPanel – How to get invited\, and then re-invited\, to a festival\, what festivals offer teams\, and what they expect in return.
