The day will consist of dancing across the city centre followed by the AGM and socialising. We will also put on Friday night social/session and more dancing on Sunday lunchtime for those who wish. \nSheffield is known as a hotbed of morris dancing\, and folk arts in general.  It is easily accessible by rail\, bus and road.  Not so much by sea.  This event is being organised by Sheffield City Morris\, Pecsaetan Morris\, and Five Rivers Morris. \nWe have lots of great teams from far and wide joining us for the celebration. \nTimetable\n\nThe final timetable of dance spots is available here\nA map of the dance spots is available here for printing.\nThere is also an interactive online version which includes food and drink spots\, pubs and useful travel information. All places mentioned in the information below are featured on this map.\n\nTeam contacts\n\nIf you haven’t already\, please ask your Squire or a main contact to join the Whatsapp Group for communication on the day.  See the email sent to your team contact for how to join.\n\nAprès Morris\n\nIf you are arriving on Friday\, please do join us at the University Arms for drinks\, music and songs. The pub is serving food until 8pm.\nWhen dancing finishes on Saturday we will adjourn to the Perch Brewhouse\, where the AGM will also take place. The Perch will be serving pizzas until late.\nFollowing the AGM will be an informal ceilidh at The Perch at about 8pm; musicians welcome to join the scratch band.\nMorris Fed 50th Anniversary badges will be available to buy at both venues!\n\nFood & Drink\n\nWe’ve included on the map plenty of recommended local pubs and independent food/drink venues.\nWe encourage all teams to support Sheffield’s fantastic independent businesses wherever possible rather than relying on chains.\n\n‍On the day\n\nMorris Fed 50th Anniversary badges will be available to buy from Committee members with the Knights of King Ina\, Trentside Holmes\, and Windsor Morris.\nYou may like to visit the Sheffield Winter Gardens to see Sheffield City Morris’ 50th anniversary photo exhibition\, open until 4.30pm.\nPlease be aware of walkways\, shop entrances etc and keep these clear to ensure the public can still move freely\nWe have an official photographer and videographer covering the event\, so please say hello\, pose majestically\, or let him know if you would prefer not to be featured!\n\nAGM\n\nThe Morris Federation AGM will take place at 4.30pm upstairs at the Perch Brewhouse.\nAt the start of the AGM\, Pauline Woods-Wilson will be presented with her EFDSS Gold Badge; please join us to celebrate this wonderful achievement!\nSee your team contact for AGM Papers and the minutes from last year’s meeting.\n\nSunday dancing\n\nIf you would like to do some more dancing on Sunday\, please meet at the Millowners Arms in Kelham Island at 11:30\, with dancing to start at 12:00. Teams and individuals welcome.\n\nTravel & Parking\n\nSheffield operates a Clean Air Zone. This doesn’t apply to cars\, but older vans and motorhomes may be liable to pay. You can check if your vehicle is affected here.\nWe strongly encourage the use of public transport where possible; there are some very convenient Supertram park and ride sites around the city. Get off at the Cathedral spot for a short walk to all dance spots.\nFor those who do need to drive\, Q-Park Rockingham Street or NCP Solly Street are both reasonably priced and a convenient walk to the dance spots.\nThe Sheffield 10K is taking place on Sunday 28 September\, resulting in some road closures around the west of the city. If you are staying on this side of town you may find roads a bit busier than usual\n\nFAQs \nCan our team be added?  Bookings are now closed – email us about last-minute availability: drop us an email. \nIs it a special event?  Obviously all Fed AGMs are special!  However it’s also the 50th anniversary of the Morris Federation and also of several sides including Sheffield City Morris. \nWill there be any charge?  The dancing\, AGM and evening socialising will be free of charge. \nIf I’m driving\, where can I park?  Like most cities\, parking in the city centre can expensive. Be aware that there are bus gates and a clean air zone\, which catches most motorhomes. An alternative is to use the park & ride car parks and come in on the tram. \nWhat accommodation is available for the weekend?  There are many hotels in the city centre but unfortunately there are no campsites nearby. We hope to be able to arrange a limited number of camper / motor home spaces. \nWhat happens if the weather is bad?  We will be looking to use indoor accommodation but the day of dance would inevitably be curtailed. \nWhat happens if there’s an emergency?  Please contact the organisers and the relevant emergency service if required. \nWhere can we find further information?  As more detail develops\, we will update this page and obviously send fuller details to the teams who sign up to come! \n#MFAGM2025 \nWhich teams will be there?  37 teams booked (as at 10th September): \n\n\n\nTeam\nDance Style\nTown & County\nWeb Site\nSide Hashtag\n\n\nAdlington Morris\nCotswold\nStockport\, Greater Manchester\nhttps://adlingtonmorrismen.com/\n–\n\n\nBeverley Garland\nNorth West\nBeverley\, East Riding of Yorkshire\nhttps://beverleygarlanddancers.co.uk/\n#BeverleyGarlandDancers\n\n\nBlack Annis\nCotswold\, Molly\nLeicester\, Leicestershire\nhttps://blackannismorris.org/\n–\n\n\nBlack Gate Morris\nCotswold\nNewcastle\, Tyne and Wear\nBlack Gate Morris Facebook page\n–\n\n\nBow Brook\nBorder\nUpton Snodsbury Worcestershire\nBow Brook Border Facebook page\n#BowBrookBorder\n\n\nClerical Error\nBorder\nHolywell\, Flintshire\nClerical Error Morris Facebook page\n#ClericalErrorMorris\n\n\nDukes Dandy Clog\nClog Step\nRetford\, Nottinghamshire\nDukes Dandy on MF teamfinder\n#DukesDandy\n\n\nFeet First\nAppalachian\nChesterfield\, Derbyshire\nhttp://www.feetfirstdance.co.uk/\n#FeetFirstAppalachian\n\n\nFive Rivers Morris\nCotswold\nSheffield\, South Yorkshire\nhttp://fiveriversmorris.org.uk/\n#FiveRiversMorris\n\n\nFolk Factory Youth (Soundpost)\nVarious\nSheffield\, South Yorkshire\nhttps://www.soundpost.org.uk/\n–\n\n\nHarlequin North West\nNorth West\nCleasby\, North Yorkshire\nHarlequin Morris Facebook page\n–\n\n\nKnights of King Ina\nCotswold Jigs\nLangport\, Somerset\nhttps://kingina.uk/\n#KnightsofKingIna\n\n\nLiberty Hill North West\nNorth West\nMidlands area\nLiberty Hill Facebook page\n#LibertyHillNorthWestMorris\n\n\nLizzie Dripping\nBorder\, Molly\, North West\, Clog Step\nSheffield\, South Yorkshire\nhttp://www.lizziedripping.org.uk/\n–\n\n\nMabel Gubbins\nRapper\nWallingford\, Oxfordshire\nhttps://www.mabelgubbins.co.uk/\n–\n\n\nMakeney Morris\nCotswold\nBelper\, Derbyshire\nhttps://www.makeneymorris.org.uk/\n#MakeneyMorris\n\n\nMersey Morris\nCotswold\nWirral\, Merseyside\nhttps://merseymorris.com/\n#MerseyMorris\n\n\nMilltown Cloggies\nNorth West\nDukinfield\, Greater Manchester\nMilltown Cloggies Facebook page\n–\n\n\nMockbeggar Morris\nNorth West\nWirral\, Merseyside\nMockbeggar Morris Facebook page\n#MockbeggarMorris\n\n\nMortimer’s Morris\nNorth West\nNottingham\, Nottinghamshire\nhttps://www.mortimers-morris.org.uk/\n–\n\n\nOutside Capering Crew\, The\nCotswold\, Broom\nDidcot\, Oxfordshire\nhttp://www.caperingcr.eu/\n#OutsideCaperingCrew\n\n\nPateley Longsword\nLongsword\nRipon\, North Yorkshire\nhttp://www.pateleylongsword.co.uk/\n#PateleyLongsword\n\n\nPecsaetan Morris\nCotswold\nSheffield\, South Yorkshire\nhttp://www.pecsaetan.co.uk/\n–\n\n\nRamshackle Morris\nCotswold\, Border\nYork\, North Yorkshire\nRamshackle Morris Facebook page\n#Ramshacklemorris\n\n\nRed Cuthbert\nCotswold\, Border\nBedford\, Bedfordshire\nhttp://redcuthbert.uk/\n#RedCuthbertMorris\n\n\nRipley Green Garters\nNorth West\nRipley\, Derbyshire\nhttps://ripleygreengarters.co.uk/\n–\n\n\nRumworth Morris\nNorth West\nSheffield\, South Yorkshire\nhttp://www.rumworthmorris.org.uk/\n#RumworthMorris\n\n\nSheffield City Morris\nCotswold\nSheffield\, South Yorkshire\nhttps://sheffieldcitymorris.org.uk/\n#SheffieldCityMorris\n\n\nSlubbing Billys\nNorth West\nHuddersfield\, West Yorkshire\nSlubbing Billys Facebook page\n#SlubbingBillys\n\n\nSutton Masque\nBorder\nEly\, Cambridgeshire\nhttp://suttonmasque.org.uk/\n–\n\n\nTaylor’s Morris\nCotswold\nLambeth Walk\, London\nhttps://taylorsmorris.org/\n–\n\n\nThe Nine Ladies\nClog Step\nSwanwick\, Derbyshire\nThe Nine Ladies Facebook page\n–\n\n\nTourbillion\nCotswold Jigs\nKennerleigh\, Devon\n–\n–\n\n\nTrentside Holmes\nCotswold\nNewark\, Nottinghamshire\nTrentside Holmes Facebook page\n#TrentsideHolmes\n\n\nWakefield Morris\nNorth West\nWakefield\, West Yorkshire\nhttp://www.wakefieldmorris.com/\n#WakefieldMorrisDancers\n\n\nWindsor Morris\nCotswold\nWindsor\, Berkshire\nhttps://windsormorris.org.uk/\n#WindsorMorris\n\n\nYorkshire Chandelier\nNorth West\, Garland\nSheffield\, South Yorkshire\nhttp://www.yorkshirechandelier.org.uk/\n#YorkshireChandelier

SUMMARY:Joint Morris Organisations' Day of Dance 2025 (Stockport)
DESCRIPTION:Joint Morris Organisations’ Day of Dance 2025 (Stockport)\n \n  \n  \n  \nThe JMO National Day of Dance is a collaborative event organised in turn by one of the three morris organisations in the UK – The Morris Federation\, The Morris Ring\, and Open Morris. The day of dance is a celebration of morris and traditional dancing held annually at a different location around the UK. \nIn 2025 the day of dance is on Saturday 26th April 2025 in Stockport\, Greater Manchester\, hosted by Adlington Morris Men on behalf of the Morris Ring. \n‘Totally Stockport’ have created a facebook event for the public: A Day of Dance for Stockport (1000 Morris Dancers) on Facebook \n\nBookings closed; contact the organisers in case there are spare places. \n\nParticipants – all your info in one place\nHere you can find all the info you need in one place: https://linktr.ee/jmo2025 \nThis includes the Participants’ Information Booklet\, how to get Saturday evening Ceilidh tickets\, and more. \nHere’s the JMO Stockport Leaflet [PDF] available on the day: \n \n\n\nMore details\nAdlington Morris Men sent us the following details: \nAdlington Morris Men are already hard at work organising what’s promising to be the biggest and best JMO yet.  The local council\, shops and businesses are all pulling together to organise a full day and evening of events\, and your side is invited to be part of it! \n\n\nFrom Morris-themed family craft activities to folky fringe events\, the whole of the town centre will be filled with the sound of bells throughout the day\, before giving way to an absolutely free ceilidh afterparty with live band\, pop-up craft beer bar and street food stalls – with ticket priority given to you! \n\n\nWe’re handily located on major railway routes and three motorways\, so getting here couldn’t be easier. \n\n\nParking \nCentral Stockport has ample parking for cars\, but all of these are at a cost.  Alternatively\, a free Park and Ride car park (without height restrictions) can be found in Hazel Grove\, a 15 minute £2 bus ride from the town centre. \nAccommodation \n\nIndoor camping is in the rather plush 1st Bramhall Scout HQ\, charging just enough to cover our costs.  It’s warm and has a shower\, is right by Bramhall station (10 minutes from Stockport) and has free parking.  Let us know if your side might like a space or six.\nHappy Valley Campers have agreed to host any tents and motorhomes you might like to bring\, and are an easy ten minute bus ride from central Stockport. It’s a turn-up-and-pay affair at £10 pppn.\nIf any of your side would like to stay at the Holiday Inn Express at the discounted B&B rate of £129 per room per night (a saving of £25 off the usual)\, this needs to booked directly.  Call the hotel on 0161 359 6363 and ask to speak to Hannah Marshall before the end of December to secure your room.\n\n  \nAssembly and Sign-in \nPlease ensure a member of your side signs in at the Welcome Desk in Viaduct park between 9.30 and 10.00 and receives your Welcome Pack\, and ensure that your side is all present and correct by 10.00.  After a welcome at 10:15 from your hosts\, Adlington Morris Men\, the Morris Ring\, and (if she is able to attend) the Mayor of Stockport\, please then assemble your side at your allocated position\, referring to the signage around the park\, ready for the short parade through Merseyway (one of Stockport’s main thoroughfares) and up to the Marketplace (including a short but fairly steep hill\, but with lift access available.  From there\, sides will disperse to their first performance locations of the day. \n\n\nBeer \nWe’re working with The Baker’s Vaults\, an historic pub in Stockport\, to put a special JMO DoD beer on tap.  The trouble is that it doesn’t have a name yet – answers on a postcard/email. \nLunchtime music session \nAt lunch\, 13:00-15:00\, we’ll be organising a lunchtime music session in case you really haven’t heard enough tunes already. \nEvening Ceilidh – free \nIn the evening\, there will be a totally free ceilidh in the historic St Mary’s Church overlooking Stockport marketplace; the band and caller are booked\, as is the bar\, so all we need is you! Doors open 19:00\, ceilidh 19:30-22:45.  Attendance at the ceilidh is free but\, in order to manage numbers\, places must be booked.  Details of this will be sent out closer to the time.  There will be a bar\, and food available to buy throughout the evening. \nOther things in the pipeline \nShire horses… children’s crafts… street food… thousands of stickers… the customary leather badges… workshops…  The list is growing! \nScratch Side(s) \nWe’ve been contacted by a few people whose sides haven’t quite got the numbers to dance out at the JMO DoD\, but would really like to join anyway.  We’re therefore organising a venue for a scratch side (or perhaps multiple\, depending on numbers and traditions) to practise in the morning before dancing out after lunch.  If you’re interested\, drop us an email to jmo2025@adlingtonmorrismen.com and we’ll be in touch. \nRegister your side/team \n\n\nBookings closed; contact the organisers in case there are spare places.  If you’re not yet signed up and would like to take part\, please email jmo2025@adlingtonmorrismen.com .  JMO Day of Dance 2025 Registration \n\n\nWe are in touch with registered sides with more details\, but if you want to get in touch please email jmo2025@adlingtonmorrismen.com.  Here’s to 2025 in Stockport! \n#JMOSTOCKPORT #JMO2025 \nWho will be performing where and when?\nSee the Participants’ Information Booklet at: https://linktr.ee/jmo2025 \nHere’s the latest list of teams (51 teams as at 21st April). \nOrganisation key: MR = Morris Ring\, OM = Open Morris\, MF = Morris Federation\n \n\n\n\nTeam\nDanceStyle\nLocation\nWeb site\nTeam Hashtag\nOrg\n\n\nAdlington Morris Men\nCotswold\nStockport\, Greater Manchester\nhttps://adlingtonmorrismen.com/\n–\nMR\, MF\n\n\nBedcote Morris\nCotswold\nStourbridge\, West Midlands\nhttps://bedcote.com/\n–\nOM\n\n\nBlackstone Edge Rapper\nRapper\nRochdale\, Greater Manchester\nBlackstone Edge on Facebook\n–\nMF\n\n\nBirmingham Rapper\nRapper\nBirmingham\, West Midlands\nBirmingham Rapper on Facebook\n\nOM\n\n\nBollin Morris\nBorder\nLymm\, Cheshire\nhttps://bollinmorris.org/\n–\nOM\n\n\nCadi Ha Morris\nCotswold\nBangor\, Wales\nCadi Ha on Facebook\n–\nOM\n\n\nChapel-en-le-Frith Morris\nCotswold\nChapel-en-le-Frith\, Derbyshire\nhttps://chapelmorris.org/\n–\nMR\n\n\nChorlton Cloghoppers\nStep\nChorleton\, Greater Manchester\nChorlton Cloghoppers on Facebook\n–\nOM\n\n\nClerical Error Morris Dancers\nBorder\nFlintshire\, Wales\nClerical Error on Facebook\n#ClericalErrorMorris\nMF\n\n\nDomesday Morris\nBorder\nStoke-on-Trent\, Staffordshire\nDomesday Morris on Facebook\n#DomesdayMorris\nMF\n\n\nEarl of Stamford Morris\nCotswold\nWarrington\, Cheshire\nwww.earlofstamford.org.uk\n–\nOM\n\n\nFiddle ‘n’ Feet\nAppalachian\nShipley\, West Yorkshire\nFiddle ‘n’ Feet on Facebook\n–\nMF\n\n\nFidler’s Fancy Morris\nNorth West\nStockport\, Greater Manchester\nhttps://fidlersfancy.weebly.com/\n–\nMF\n\n\nFosbrooks Folk Education Trust\nClog Step\nStockport\, Greater Manchester\nFosbrooks on Facebook\n–\nNone\n\n\nFOXS Morris\nBorder\nCookley\, Worcestershire\nhttps://foxsmorris.blogspot.com/\n–\nOM\n\n\nGreen Man Morris\nBorder\nNantwich\, Cheshire\nwww.greenmanmorris.org\n–\nOM\n\n\nHoylake Border Morris\nBorder\nHoylake\, Merseyside\nHoylake Morris on Facebook\n–\nOM\n\n\nIronmen\nBorder\nTelford\, Shropshire\nhttps://www.imsg.org.uk/\n–\nMF\n\n\nJockey Morris\nCotswold\nBirmingham\, West Midlands\nhttp://www.jockeymorris.org.uk/\n–\nMR\n\n\nKinnerton Morris Men\nCotswold\nChester\, Cheshire\nhttp://www.kinnertonmorris.com\n–\nMR\n\n\nKitchen Taps Appalachian\nAppalachian\nOtley\, West Yorkshire\nKitchen Taps on Facebook\n–\nOM\n\n\nKnights of King Ina\nCotswold jigs\nLangport\, Somerset\nhttps://kingina.uk/\n#KnightsofKingIna\nMF\n\n\nLeek Morris\nCotswold\, Border\nLeek\, Staffordshire\nhttps://leekmorris.my-free.website/\n#LeekMorris\nMF\n\n\nLizzie Dripping\nCotswold\nSheffield\, South Yorkshire\nLizzie Dripping on Facebook\n–\nMF\n\n\nMaltby Sword Dancers\nLongsword; DESCRIPTION:Welcoming you!\nThe Morris Federation and Beggars’ Oak Clog extend a warm welcome to all members of The Morris Federation to join us in a Day of Let’s Dance\, in Armitage\, Staffordshire\, on Sunday 2nd March 2025. \nThe Morris Federation and host teams are running a series of regional events to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Morris Federation\, founded in 1975. \nBeggar’s Oak have combined this with the Let’s Dance initiative. Let’s Dance is a national campaign to inspire everyone in the UK to embrace dance as a way to improve their health\, connect with others\, and have fun.  It was founded by Angela Rippon CBE. \nNotes from the organisers \nAll the plans for the Day of Let’s Dance are coming to fruition and I am delighted that Beggars’ Oak Clog can look forward to so many of you joining us for Angela Rippon’s initiative of getting the nation dancing and\, of course\, in celebration of the Morris Federation’s 50th Anniversary. \nI now have pleasure in attaching a copy of the Programme for the day which\, as you will see\, is promising to be a very busy schedule\, from 11:00-17:00.  The key aim is for us to display our individual dance genres\, listen to some fabulous music and most importantly to have FUN . \nThe venue is Armitage with Handsacre Village Hall\, Shropshire Brook Road\, Armitage\, Staffordshire WS15 4UZ  where there is ample free on-site parking. \nPlease don’t forget to bring along a packed lunch but there will be an opportunity for you to purchase light refreshments from the Cafe and the Bar\, which will be open from 12:00-15:30.  Please do not bring or consume your own alcohol on site.  \nWe have shared news of our event with Midlands Today\, Central News and The One Show ….. we might find ourselves appearing on the telly!!!  A photographer by the name of John Harvey who films a lot of Morris has indicated that he will be attending our event.  We will also have representatives from the Morris Federation joining us. \nPosters have been circulated inviting the general public to come along to watch…. and participate! … throughout the day – please encourage your family and friends to do likewise.   A Day of Let’s Dance is a not for profit event but we will be asking visitors to kindly make a minimum donation of £1 upon entry\, the proceeds from which will be donated to St Giles Hospice … a very worthy cause I am sure you will agree. \nAny profits made will go to St Giles Hospice. \nBeggars Oak Clog are so looking forward to hosting the Day of Let’s Dance – it is shaping up to being a great day full of merriment. \nPerformers \nAs well as morris and molly dancers\, there will be Belly Dancers\, Irish Dancers\, Line Dancers\, Folk Dancers\, and Folk Musicians\, some of which you can join in with. \nThe Morris/Molly Teams booked are listed below. \nAny queries about the event\, please email contact-us@beggars-oak.org.uk \n\n\n\nTeam\nDance Style\nCounty\nContact\nOrg\n\n\nBeggars’ Oak Clog\nNorth West\nArmitage\, Staffordshire\nhttps://www.beggars-oak.org.uk/\nMF\n\n\nBrummie Gems Molly Dancers\nMolly\nBirmingham\, West Midlands\nhttps://glorishears.co.uk/\nMF\n\n\nIronmen and Severn Gilders\nBorder\, North West\nTelford\, Shropshire\nhttps://www.imsg.org.uk/\nMF\n\n\nLeek Morris\nCotswold\, Border\nLeek\, Staffordshire\nhttps://leekmorris.my-free.website/\nMF\n\n\nThree Spires Morris\nNorth West\nLichfield\, Staffordshire\nhttps://threespiresmorris.wordpress.com/\nMF\n\n\nUttoxeter Heart of Oak Morris\nCotswold\nUttoxeter\, Staffordshire\nhttps://www.uttoxetermorris.co.uk/\nMR\n\n\nStafford Morris\nas above\nStafford\, Staffordshire\nhttps://www.staffordmorris.co.uk/\nMR\n\n\n\nKey.  Org: The team is a member of one of the three morris organiastions\, MF = Morris Federation\, MR = Morris Ring\, OM = Open Morris \nEvent hashtag: #MorrisFed50

SUMMARY:"Yoga for Morris Dancers" - Carla Wilson - Workshop (LIVE on Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:“Yoga for Morris Dancers” – Carla Wilson – Workshop\nAn online workshop\, hosted by Carla Wilson\, a qualified yoga teacher and member of Slubbing Billy’s Northwest Morris. \nInformation from host\nI am a Northwest Morris dancer and qualified yoga instructor. I have been dancing for about 6 years and practising yoga for about 18 years\, completing a yoga teacher training course in India in 2006. This yoga session for Morris dancers will include: a warm-up that can be used as a warm-up before dancing; practices for strengthening the core (a stronger core takes pressure off the knees) and improving balance (always good for dancing); stretches for the backs of legs (to help get higher kicks and as a counterbalance to using leg muscles for dancing which can result in tight hamstrings); and finally a relaxation with mindfulness (good for everybody – Morris dancer or not!). Please wear loose or stretchy clothes\, and have something reasonably comfortable to lie on such as carpet\, rug or folded blanket\, or a yoga mat of course. \nTo register\nPlease complete this online form: Register for “Yoga for Morris Dancers” – Carla Wilson; you will receive a confirmation email immediately (check your spam/junk/promotions folder!).  We will send you a Zoom link a couple of days before the event.  Open to all – you don’t have to be a member of a team in The Morris Federation. \n

SUMMARY:Morris Ring Jigs Instructional 2024 (Sutton Bonington\, near Nottingham)
DESCRIPTION:Morris Ring Jigs Instructional 2024 (Sutton Bonington\, near Nottingham)\nA Morris Ring event.  Open to all members of teams from the Morris Ring\, Morris Federation\, Open Morris\, or independent. \nThis year it will be for a single day\, in the usual venue\, Sutton Bonington near Nottingham\, on Saturday 20th January. We’ll get in as much of the curriculum as possible from the previous weekend events\, so expect it to be quite a long day. Put the effort in and we guarantee to improve your dancing. \nYou need to be comfortable dancing set dances from at least one Cotswold tradition. The sessions are as much about dancing well as about dancing jigs\, so one frequent attendee refers to it as “an MoT for my Morris”. \nThe day will start at 0930\, with breakfast from 0830\, and end with a meal – not a Feast – so that you can get on the road at about 1930. If you’re travelling from further afield there should be very limited indoor camping available (it is explicitly forbidden in the main hall) or there are cheap hotels not far away at East Midlands airport. \nBOOKINGS OPEN!  Cost is expected to be around £30 including all meals. If you’re interested email jigsinstructional@themorrisring.org and we’ll send more details and an application form. Entries don’t have to be through sides\, just mention your side (or one of them).

SUMMARY:Workshop – Safeguarding\, an introduction - Andrea Richards (LIVE on Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop – Safeguarding\, an introduction – Andrea Richards\nA whistlestop tour of all things safeguarding for both children and vulnerable adults in a morris setting.  Aimed at teams who have under 18’s or vulnerable adults\, or are thinking of setting up a youth team.  We will cover: \n\nWhat is Safeguarding – whose responsibility is it?\nWhy do we need to know?\nSafeguarding from what and who – and how?\nWhat to look for – and what to do.\nWe will look at some of the law with a view to myth-busting some of the biggest misunderstandings.\nChildren and vulnerable adults – is there a difference in what we need to consider and how we deal with it?\n\nTrigger Warning: This session will be informative and practical\, but please bear in mind that this can be an emotive subject for many people\, there will be some examples discussed from the speaker’s personal experience of working in Safeguarding. \nApprox timings: Talk – about 1 hour\, followed by Q & A. \nYour host\nBack in 1988\, I joined Merseyside Police at 19 years old at a time when there were very few women in policing\, so despite my young age and lack of life experience\, I was allocated to deal with all things relating to Child protection or family matters – apparently being female was the only qualification I required!  I followed a VERY steep learning curve\, knowing that many of my early victims were failed by my lack of knowledge and skills and I quickly realised this was something I was passionate about and wanted to get right. \nMy police career was wide and varied\, but no matter how many times I changed roles\, there was an underlying theme of sex\, grief and abuse!  Victim focus was something I was keen on – as I felt with in investigation\,they were often on an unstoppable roller coaster ride. \nI regularly veered back to a safeguarding function in some guise or another; working in “Child Protection”\, “Domestic Violence” and Vulnerable Adult Units\, Public Protection\, Surveillance of high risk sex offenders and in training other officers so they didn’t have the same steep learning curve I had.  I worked within National Police Training and helped devise the training programme for “Specialist Child Abuse Investigators”. \nI was also a Family Liaison Officer for Murder and Manslaughter and worked on a number of major incidents in different roles throughout my career. \nSince retiring\, I set up as an independent training consultant – delivering all the specialist skills I’d developed throughout my career to many different audiences\, Police\, NHS\, Home Office Asylum Decision makers\, Schools and Colleges. \nThroughout all of this I have been involved in Carnival Morris dancing almost since I could walk!  As part of a Morris family\, I’ve danced\, trained\, judged\, helped run organisations\, been a troubleshooter for struggling teams and more recently set up a new organisation called REMIX\, now going into our second season.  So I have a vested interest in making sure that all we do in the morris world is safe\, inclusive and enjoyable for all. \nTo register\nPlease complete this online form: Register for the Workshop – Safeguarding\, an introduction – Andrea Richards; you will receive a confirmation email immediately (check your spam/junk/promotions folder!).  We will send you a Zoom link a couple of days before the event.  Open to all – you don’t have to be a member of a team in The Morris Federation. \nResources\nSlides from this talk (as PDF). \nSee the MF Safeguarding guidance at: https://www.morrisfed.org.uk/for-teams/safeguarding/ \nGovernment Guidance on ‘After-school clubs\, community activities and tuition: safeguarding guidance for providers’: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/keeping-children-safe-in-out-of-school-settings-code-of-practice \nNSPCC: https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/safeguarding-child-protection \n

SUMMARY:Workshop - Using Digital for Recruitment and Marketing: No IT Expertise Needed! - Brian Kelly (LIVE on Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Accompanying resources\nThis workshop has taken place.  However for those interested in the topic the following resources related to this workshop are available: \n\nUsing Digital for Recruitment and Marketing: No IT Expertise Needed! – videos of talks\nWorkshop report\n\nWorkshop – Using Digital for Recruitment and Marketing: No IT Expertise Needed! – Brian Kelly\nMorris dancing is fun; you know that. The name ‘morris’ is well-known: “Oh look – it’s morris dancers” will be a cry uttered by many who see dance spots (and even rapper dancers have probably been asked “Which one’s Maurice?”).  And yet it seems many sides seem to be struggling to get new members.  \nOver the past two years the Morris Federation has been exploring ways in which digital technologies can be used to support marketing and recruitment activities.  \nWe know that many (although by no means all) sides have limited technical expertise – or interests in spending time in front of a computer (or typing information into a small smart phone). So the focus of our work has been on developments to the Morris Federation’s Teamfinder service – all you need to do is to add content to your profile (and if you have problems doing that – perhaps on a small phone – you can contact us so we can explore alternatives)   \nWe now have evidence from about 100 early adopters of the benefits of providing rich descriptions in their side’s Teamfinder profile – Google “#poachermorris” to see how a single search term\, the side’s hashtag\, can be used to provide access to the side’s main profile pages and embedded videos! Note that if you add a hashtag for your side to your profile you can include this in posters and flyers – and even announce “If you’ve taken photos of videos of our dance display tag them ‘hash ambridge morris’ if you share them online” (use your side’s hashtag!)  \nOr use a search query likely to be used by potential new dancers such as “looking for friendly mixed morris side in Dorset”  \nBut in order to convert those with a general interest into potential recruits it’s best to make use of video clips showing your side performing.  \nA Google search for  “#swanagefolkfestival video” should find clips of #MendipMorris\, #GarstonGallopers and #SarumMorris who contributed to one of three videos which promoted this year’s Swanage Folk Festival.   \nThis provides an example of how we can provide video content for an online community (those with an interest in a folk festival) which also promotes the featured dance side. In this example the videos were amongst the most watched Morris Federation videos of the year – and reached an audience beyond popular Morris dance Facebook groups.  \nSign up for the “Using Digital for Recruitment and Marketing: No IT Expertise Needed!” Zoom workshop to find out how your side can exploit recent IT developments to its Teamfinder service – as well as finding out about best practices for using video clips for recruitment and marketing.  \nTo register\nPlease complete this online form: Workshop – Using Digital for Recruitment and Marketing: No IT Expertise Needed! – you will receive a confirmation email immediately (check your spam/junk/promotions folder!).  We will send you a Zoom link a couple of days before the event.  Open to all – you don’t have to be a member of a team in The Morris Federation. \nYour host\nBrian Kelly joined the Newcastle Kingsmen in 1978 and performed with them at festivals throughout the UK and Across Europe. He has danced with several other sword and Cotswold Morris sides but now dances a few times a year with Haymarket Rapper. \nIn his professional career  Brian helped set up the UK’s first university website and spent 17 years as a national web adviser to UK Universities\, advising them on best practices for using the Web.  In his retirement Brian is now advising Morris Federation sides on how they can use digital technologies for recruitment and marketing. \nResources\nThe Morris Federation’s IT Resources: Advice and Support page contains access to almost 50 documents on best practices for making use of IT to support your side’s activities. \nNote as well as YouTube we’ll also explore the potential of TikTok – a video sharing service which is particularly popular with young people\, especially for viewing on mobile phones.  Here’s an example of a TikTok video used to promote this workshop (it will be interesting to see which has more views – the TikTok video\, the video shared on Facebook or the video posted to Twitter!) \n\n@ukwebfocusUsing Digital for Recruitment and Marketing No IT Expertise Needed! #MorrisFed♬ original sound – Brian Kelly
